I personally suggest getting quotes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atet.si\/en\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Atet<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sixt.si\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sixt<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enterprise.com\/en\/home.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Enterprise.<\/a> They are often the cheapest in my experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drive from Ljubljana to Bled is around 54 km and takes around 40 minutes. It is a very easy drive mainly on the highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"By_bus%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>By bus\u2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the cheapest way &#8211; by far! Buses run from Ljubljana to Bled around 2-4 times an hour. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ap-ljubljana.si\/en\/timetable\/?vstopid=1&amp;vstopnaziv2=LJUBLJANA%20AVTOBUSNA%20POSTAJA&amp;izstopid=64&amp;izstopnaziv2=Bled&amp;datumvstopa=31.05.2019&amp;ponudnikid=0&amp;rnd=wjSxL&amp;fbclid=IwAR0-pBJkx7Qod3kC3qoITNbIj4IFQTqX3Hg-B-j22s5YR5XzdNzRlBXDNvY\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">You can check the schedule here in English<\/a>. One way is 7.80 \u20ac and round trip for 12.84 \u20ac with the ability to return up to 30 days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bus stops just a few minutes from the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that some of the routes have a lot of stops and some are more direct. If you click \u2018Details\u2019 you will see each stop and here you can also see the Route Name. This route name is what you want to look for on the front of the bus before boarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"By_train%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>By train\u2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slo-zeleznice.si\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Trains run from Ljubljana to Jesenice<\/a> then you change trains to Bled. There are limited trains each day and it costs between 8\u20ac and 12\u20ac (depending on the ticket) and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes each way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"By_carpool%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>By carpool\u2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carpooling is another very inexpensive way to travel in Slovenia. <a href=\"https:\/\/prevoz.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Prevoz.si<\/a> is how you can find a ride. The site is only in Slovene but it is very straight forward. You can see below how I filled in the boxes. The downside is that there might not be any rides and it is usually best for last-minute planning. But the cost can be as low as 3\u20ac one way! They offer the most affordable rides from nearby airports (Venice, Zagreb, Trieste). They do run shuttles between Ljubljana and Bled, but it will be a bit more costly than the previous suggestions. Probably a perfect option for large groups or families. If you use this option the further in advance you book, usually the cheapest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"About_Bled\"><\/span>About Bled<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bled is famous for Lake Bled. A glacial lake with a small island in the middle and a huge cliff with a castle perched on top, overlooking the town. It is located in the Gorenjska region of Slovenia known for the Alps. Bled sits right between the <a href=\"https:\/\/wanderinghelene.com\/triglav-national-park\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Julian Alps<\/a>, Karavanka Mountains, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wanderinghelene.com\/a-snow-day-in-pokljuka-slovenia-travel\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pokljuka forest<\/a> (a personal favorite).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Settlements have been recorded at Bled since the Mesolithic<\/strong> (middle stone age). It was later settled by early Slavic groups, then Frankish forces, then it was under Bavarian rule, then the Holy Roman Empire for 800 years! Whether it is in cuisine, language, architecture, art, customs, or just about anything. It is fascinating what individuals and communities decide what to keep with them culturally and what to pass on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tourism began in Bled because of pilgrimages to the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church, and by 1855 it took off due to natural health spas. Today these health spas are located in several hotels (listed below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Things_to_do_in_Lake_Bled\"><\/span>Things to do in Lake Bled<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bled_Castle\"><\/span>Bled Castle<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blejski-grad.si\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bled Castle<\/a> (Blejski Grad) is a medieval castle that is built on top of a cliff overlooking Lake Bled. Some historians think it is the oldest castle in Slovenia. Inside there is a museum, restaurant, wine cellar, and a very cool castle forge I highly suggest visiting. It is customary to take traditional boats called <em>pletna<\/em> to the island and ring the bell for good luck. Do note that there are 99 steps to get to the church! Radovljica is a medieval town with a lot of history and culture to explore. It is primarily known for its beekeeping and yearly chocolate festival in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Radovljica, you can visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/mro.si\/english\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Beekeeping Museum<\/a> (\u010cebelarski muzej). Beekeeping is one of Slovenia&#8217;s oldest traditions and dates back to the 16th century! At the museum, you can learn about the history and influence apiculture had on the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next door to here is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lectar.com\/_en\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Gostilna Lectar<\/a> which houses a restaurant, hotel, Gingerbread museum, and workshops. It is here that you can learn about the famous ginger and honey heart-shaped cookies with intricate decorations. They are still produced by hand in the traditional way during the late Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kropa\"><\/span>Kropa<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kropa is not far from Bled and just 10 km from Radovljica, but the roads are always scenic in Slovenia so while locations look close on a map check the routes for time. The small town (pop. 839) is famous for traditional blacksmiths. It is said that the traditions go back to the Celtic times with the furnaces dating from the 14th century. They even produced the nails that are holding Venice together. In my <a href=\"https:\/\/wanderinghelene.com\/exploring-kras-kraski-prsut-at-prsutarna-scuka\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article about Kras<\/a>, I discussed how Venice is literally held up by Slovenian wood!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/mro.si\/english\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Iron Forging Museum<\/a> is a great place to start and across the street, <a href=\"https:\/\/uko.si\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">you can buy handmade products<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"background-color: #f7f7f7; padding: 1.0em; max-width: 45.0em; margin: 1.0em 0; border: solid 1.0px #cccccc;\">If you decided to visit Kropa and plan on heading back to Ljubljana I highly suggest including <a href=\"https:\/\/wanderinghelene.com\/visiting-skofja-loka-castle\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u0160kofja Loka<\/a> to your itinerary.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hop_on_Hop_off_Bus\"><\/span>Hop on Hop off Bus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are Hop on Hop off buses that run between Bled and nearby towns during July and August on Tuesday through Friday.
