Sometimes also written as Lower Carniola in English. It is known for its vineyards, castles, rivers, monasteries, and thermal springs. This hidden gem should not be missed when visiting Slovenia. Dolenjska is just a short drive from Ljubljana and full of surprises. It is on an island in the Krka River. The castle houses a hotel and restaurant but you can still walk around the grounds. Built on an island in the middle of the Krka River this town is something off the beaten path. On the island, you can visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galerija-bj.si\/en\/obcasne-razstave\/galerija\/lamutov_likovni_salon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lamut\u2019s Art Salon<\/a> which is a small art gallery which doubles as a great tourist information center.&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"p1 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Go_to_the_Land_of_Hayracks\"><\/span><span class=\"s1\">3. In Slovene, they are called <em>kozolec<\/em> and they are (<em>almost<\/em>) exclusively found in Slovenia. They are often historical structures but some you will see still in use today. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hayracks are for drying and storing hay or grain. In Dolenjska, you can visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dezelakozolcev.si\/en\/museum-of-hayracks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Land of Hayracks<\/a> (<em>De\u017eela Kozolcev<\/em>) a museum all about these hayracks, which sounds funny but honestly, it was really interesting and cool to see them up close and even go inside some.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"p1 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Drink_Cvicek\"><\/span><span class=\"s1\">4. It has a ruby color and low alcohol content (7.5-10% compared to average ~12% as are most wines). Because of the low alcohol content, this wine is not very sweet, but rather more acidic. A 16th-century castle that houses the Posavje Museum. The castle also has two incredibly painted rooms that are an absolute treat. Taste local delicacies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each region of Slovenia has their own twist on traditional recipes but also some of their own dishes. In Dolenjska there is no shortage of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitdolenjska.eu\/en\/cuisine-and-wine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">delicious dishes<\/a> to try. The tower was used by Lords of a nearby castle in Soteska for entertainment, partying, secret activities, or any number of things. There is a lot of mystery around this structure. Today you can visit the tower to see the paintings inside or attend a concert as it has excellent acoustics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"13_Visit_the_Kostanjevica_Monastery\"><\/span>13. Visit the Kostanjevica Monastery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a 3-minute drive from Kostanjevica na Krki you will find a huge complex that was once the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galerija-bj.si\/en\/splosne-informacije\/o-samostanu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local monastery<\/a>. Today the monastery houses the Bo\u017eidar Jakac Art Museum. Outside the monastery is an open air exhibit of wood sculptures.
